From Under My Rock

I used to do a form of meditation where I would find my center, burn out everyhting that was around me (literally feeding it into a mental flame the completely engulfed me as my mind emptied). It was not a formal meditation but it was calming and centering and a good way to clense my thoughts of everything.

Today I meditated in a more traditional method. Since I haven’t meditated in a couple years and had forgotten what its like when I disconnect. It is a unique feeling of an inner awarness and the sense of an external force controling the movements of my body. 

Now that my mind has been cleared I find it hard to understand why I stoped doing this.

So I played Ultimate for a while in college and miss it. I also think that ultimate is more intense a physical activity than I would like to currently pursue. However, walking through a park today and I noticed an empty baseball field.

That got me thinking. If you were to scale up a baseball field some and cut the number of players on the field from 9 to 7 you could have an interesting  game. essentally you are playing baseball but you removed the pitcher, short stop, and the “catcher” is covers home and is the mark.

If a defender ceatches the disk, tags a base that the offence is forced to, or wipes a disk on the offensive player it is an out. (3 outs per half inning)

If the disk goes left of the 3rd base line or right of the 1st base line it is a foul (5 is an out). If the mark (while in the 10 foot circle around home) blocks the throw and it lands out of bounds it is counted as a foul. If any other player (or the mark if outside 10 foot circle) touches the disk and it lands out of bounce it is concidered in play.  If a strip happens by the mark it is -1 foul. if the thrower exceeds 10 seconds with the disk it is a foul.

Any foul that can be called in ultimate can be called here other than a pick if the offensive player is on a base. It is an out if an offensive player interferes with the disk after the innitial throw.

If the disk goes over the far wall (a home run in baseball) the play resets the player throwing does not recieve a foul and all players who were on base return to their positions before the throw.

Stealing bases is not allowed since there is no pitcher.

After the innitial throw players can run with the disk.

Teams must have the same number of turns on offence. The first team to 15 runs causes the final inning. The team with the most runs after that inning is over wins the game.

So I decided that I need to develop a hobby/ hobbies now that I’m on my own and don’t want to continue the perpetual sadness about not doing anything or having anything to talk about when I talk to someone.

I finally decide that looking for sea glass/ sea shells/ cool stuff on the beach would be fun, and if I felt really inspired I could even get some materials and try my hand a jewelry and craft making.

So I go to the beach, find one or two pieces of sea glass and think “This is nice I’ll go to the beach all summer find maybe 30 - 40 pieces of sea glass and when winter comes and I am too cold to look for more I will have a bunch of stuff to work with.”

Seemed reasonable. I had been looking for 30 minutes and only found a couple pieces of glass.

Then something unexpected happend. As I walked down the beach I started finding more, and more, and more, then all the sudden as if someone turned the switch on the sea glass fountian I started finding sea glass every few steps. I ended up taking home about 150 pieces of sea glass. About 30 of which I think are nice enough to make jewelry with. Now that I have way more raw materials than I could have possibly imagined getting from my first trip I decided to ramp up the research into how to make jewelry.

Now I’m looking into buying tools and wire and cord to make nice necklaces…
